His great grandfather, Martin Doyle, left Ireland in the early 1840s and settled in Parnell, MI and David grew up on Grand Rapids' west side. He is, without question, most proud of his family-wife Paula, a retired teacher from Grand Rapids Public Schools, his four daughters and a bunch of wonderful grandkids.
