When the St. Patrick’s Day massacre occurred, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins had only been around for a short while. The fight happened on March 17, 2002, when we were only in our third season in a home game against the Syracuse Crunch. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have played 1,476 regular season games as of March 17, 2018, and quite a few of those hold memorable moments for players and fans alike. But the one game that undoubtedly stands out among all of those in the crowd was played on March 17, 2002 in Wilkes-Barre – the St. Patrick’s Day Massacre. During a game between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Syracuse Crunch there were a number of incidents and that led to a number of physical altercations. The game would go on to be known simply as the "St. Patrick's Day Massacre." It's the most famous (or infamous) game in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins history, and it took lace 15 years ago today: the St. Patrick's Day Massacre.
