St Patrick’s Day proper is Sunday. The downtown parade and river dying are Saturday, as is Metro’s The Tossers show. Sunday has the NW Side and South Side parades. Friday-Sunday will have a bunch of drunk suburbanites descending on the city in green. Hi Chicago, I hope I'm in the right place for this! We (a group of 4) are heading to you next weekend for the St Patrick's Day festivities. I've always wanted to see the river green, so today we bought tickets to visit from Baltimore. We have river view rooms booked on the Riverwalk. We know it's going to be pretty packed, and are prepared. Obviously for St. Patricks day the go to is to be part in the parade/river dye celebration. Don’t stay all day there, maybe go to other neighborhoods after that will be less crowded. Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park, Edison Park will definitely be partying up for Patties Day. I am torn between doing one of these or just bouncing around different bars throughout the city as the day goes on (glascotts/delilahs around Lincoln park, pop around old town or Wrigleyville to check out the scene). Just north of the river (the River North neighborhood) is where a ton of people go out to the bars on St. Patrick's Day. Everywhere will be jam packed, but as long as you avoid the big Douchebag spots (Bottled Blonde, Fremont, Bub City, El Hefe, Old Crow, Moe's, to name a few) you'll be fine. The bar crawl tickets we’re seeing are $40 and we’re not sure if this is worth it. Preferably nothing that's overcrowded/has a line.
