For Art Lovers Landy has made a new kinetic sculpture modelled St. Patrick's Day also called Feast of St. Patrick, and St. Patty’s day is observed on March 17 and marks the death date of Saint Patrick who is the patron saint of Ireland. In the early 17th century, it was made an official Christian feast day observed by the Church of Ireland, the Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and Lutheran A series of large-scale kinetic sculptures bring a contemporary twist to the lives of the saints. Saints are more often associated with traditional sacred art than with contemporary work, but Michael Landy, current Rootstein Hopkins Associate Artist in residence at the National Gallery, has been inspired to revisit the subject for this exhibition. Landy’s large-scale sculptures consist of Made and shown for the first time in Art Lovers at Thomas Dane Gallery Naples, the work responds to Naples while expanding on the work begun during his years-long residency at the National Gallery in London from 2010.
