HOLYOKE — With the calendar turning to March, excitement is growing in Holyoke and across the region as the city’s biggest weekend, the 72nd St. Patrick’s Parade weekend is rapidly approaching. First held in 1952, the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a cherished organization representing the Irish-American community in Western Massachusetts. Since then, it has become one of America’s largest and most beloved Irish parades. The third annual Battle of the Bars Fundraiser was held on Friday, February 24th at the Knights of Columbus in Holyoke, MA. Six local bars participated in this exciting event to raise money for the Parade Committee. Colleen Flanagan of Halfway House Lounge in South Hadley, MA took home the gold.
