This is a playlist of classic Christian songs and hymns written, composed, or performed by Irish born artists. Cecil Frances Alexander (1818–1895) produced a metrical version of Patrick’s hymn, based on Whitley Stokes’ translation, for St. Patrick’s Day in 1889; this was published in Wright’s edition (Fig. 5). Her translation is the most popular. This is a hymn about St Patrick. The words were written by English hymn-writer, theologian, Roman Catholic convert and priest, Frederick William Faber (1814-1863). And Background: This 5th century hymn, Audite Omnes (“Hear Ye All”), was composed by St. Secundinus, a bishop who joined Patrick in Ireland to assist him with his work.. According to Patrick scholar Dr. Ludwig Bieler, it was probably composed after Patrick’s “Letter to the Soldiers of Coroticus” in order to defend Patrick against his critics (The Works of St. Patrick, pp. 5
