The race starts at the Rhode Island State House at 11 a.m. and ends with a post-race party at Patrick's Pub on Smith St. just in time for the Providence St. Patrick's Day Parade! It featured marching bands with pipes and drums, Irish dancers, the Providence Mounted While the Irish in Newport began parading on St. Patrick’s Day through the streets of that town as early as 1842, it was not until 1852 that the Ancient Order of Hibernians Sick and Burial Society, which had been organized in 1849, held its first public parade in Providence on St. Patrick’s Day. (3.18) The Providence St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place Saturday, March 18th. The parade kicks off on Smith Street at Wyndham Avenue and continues down Smith, ending at the Statehouse.
