Matthew Brown / Hearst Connecticut Media The Stamford St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on March 1 at 2 p.m. Traditionally this event brings together many different communities from the Greater Hartford area to celebrate the Celtic culture. Come down to the parade route early and get your seat. The parade begins at Capitol Avenue by the State Capitol, takes a left onto Main Street, and left on Asylum Avenue, a left on Ford Street, and then ends by the Memorial Arch. This year's Hartford parade marks the Central Connecticut Celtic Cultural Committee's 53rd time hosting the parade event in the capital region. Ahead of the parade, the committee will also host a parade mass at St. Patrick St. Anthony Church on Friday, March 14. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade tradition was born in New Haven on March 17, 1842, when about 90 members of the Hibernian Provident Society, a mutual aid organization formed the previous year, marched through the city streets behind a banner made especially for the occasion. Back for its 143rd year, the Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade is the oldest parade for the holiday in the state and the sixth oldest in the nation. In addition to bagpipes, marching bands and a parade royal court, the New Haven celebration includes a family fun zone with food trucks, crafts, mini games, photo ops and more.
