BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — As St. Patrick's Day approaches, the City of Buffalo is preparing for a weekend of celebrations, with Irish dancers, community events, and parades honoring Irish heritage. As part of kicking off St. Patrick's Day festivities in Buffalo, Acting Mayor Scanlon and other representatives from Buffalo's Irish community raised the flag of Ireland in front of city hall. The Old Neighborhood parade begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday this year, as opposed to noon. Today, Buffalo hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in New York State, second only to New York City. The city’s Irish population, along with thousands of revelers from all backgrounds, come together for a weekend of green-clad fun, music, and camaraderie. Buffalo’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Marisa Jacques sits down with Tim Flanagan, chairman of the Board of Directors for the Buffalo Irish Center. The Center is a family affair for Flanagan. His parents are founding members and he attended his first Civic Luncheon at 2 months old. Proceeds from the annual event go to support the Buffalo Irish Center. Born in Lennoxtown, Scotland she came to Buffalo at the age of 21. She married Patrick O’Sullivan and raised her family in South Buffalo.
